In 2005, Zhang and Sternberg’s groundbreaking paper on the threefold model of intellectual styles appeared. In this combined review and empirical article, Zhang and Sternberg proposed to unify 10 theoretical frameworks under the umbrella concept of intellectual style, while at the same time constructing three main types of styles across the 10 frameworks by employing six separate criteria for their placement.
